A roaring drive sound that evokes nostalgia
Overview of Mo-Ha type1 No. 103
Mo-Ha type1 is a semi-steel car body manufactured in 1950 at the Tokyo Works of Kisha Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and is a modified version of the wooden car body (Chi-Ki type1) manufactured in 1919 at the Nippon Sharyo Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
The features are a nose suspension drive that transmits power from the main electric motor to the axles, and a water tank for sprinkling water on the wheels to reduce friction between the wheels and the rails.
The "Mo" in the model number indicates an electric vehicle, "Ha" indicates a regular seat vehicle, and "1" indicates a vehicle length of 20 meters or less. Worked for Hakone Tozan Railway Co., Ltd.

Odakyu Hakone Co.,Ltd. (Former Hakone Tozan Railway Co., Ltd.)
In 1872, Japan's first railroad line opens between Shimbashi and Yokohama.
In 1889, The Tokaido Line is now in full service on its route from Koudu to Numazu via Gotemba.
The Odawara Basha Railway Co., Ltd. was established by volunteers in Odawara, which had prospered as a major post town on the Tokaido route since the opening of Edo, and the horse-drawn railroad between Koudu and Yumoto was opened in 1888.
After that, construction of a power plant and electrification work were carried out, and in 1900, the Odawara Electric Railway began operating the entire line between Koudu and Yumoto, replacing the horse-drawn railway.
n response to a strong recommendation that a mountain railroad should be built to attract tourists to the scenic Hakone area, Odawara Electric Railway conducted a survey of actual conditions in Europe and the United States.
As a result, the adhesion rail system was adopted instead of the abt system(Using Rack-Pinion gear), and by installing switchback lines at three locations, the 8.9-kilometer Hakone Railway between Hakone-Yumoto and Gora began operation on June 1, 1919.
Also, in 1924, the gauge (track width) was changed to the standard (1435 mm). Furthermore, in 1921, a steel cable railway (cable car) from Gora was opened.
Nose suspension drive
Trains run by transmitting the rotation of the main electric motor to the axles, turning the wheels. Since the speed of the main electric motor is too fast to be transmitted directly to the wheels, a pinion gear is attached to the motor and a large gear to the axle so that the motor turns several times and the wheels turn once.
One side of the main electric motor was hanging from the axle, so the driving sound that would be heard when the train ran was transmitted directly to the seats, bringing nostalgia to the guests.
Equipment for climbing steep slopes of 80‰
Per mille [‰]: The number of meters of elevation difference per 1,000 meters of horizontal distance.
-
Watering tank
When approaching a sharp curve, the driver opens a solenoid valve with a switch, which sprays water between the wheels and rails to reduce wear on the wheels and rails.
-
Track brake
In addition to the air brakes and electric brakes that are normally used, it is equipped with a separate “Track brake'' that is used when skidding or when the air brakes fail.
-
Railway coupling
It can not only swing left and right, but also move up and down.
