この工場は、明治40（1907）年に東京市芝区（現・港区）三田に創業し、65年間にわたって東京の下町にあった典型的な町工場の見本である。創業当時は原動力として瓦斯機関を採用し、大正5（1916）年には電動機に切換えるなど動力源の変遷があった工場である。創業当初は、8尺旋盤と6尺旋盤の2台のみであったが、次々といろいろな工作機械などを増設している。各種機械部品の加工を主として、バイトなどの工具類は、自分で火造り・焼き入れして用いた工場である。復元に際しては、見学者の安全等を考えて、実際の工場より天井を約300mm高くし、若干の工作機械を削減したが、当時の町工場を忠実に稼働可能な状態にしたものである。
